Watch the First Part of the Story – Jesus is Arrested and Crucified

• Watch the first half of this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkNTU_Vv5Ew

• Pause the video after the story about the crucifixion, at 2:07.

Discussion

  • How do you think the followers of Jesus felt when he died? (scared, sad, upset, confused etc.)

  • Look at the paints (or markers or crayons) we have here. Which of these colors do you think could be “sad” (or scared etc.) colors?

  • Help your child pull out the darker sad colors such as black, brown, grey, dark blue, dark green, even dark purple.

Painting Part 1:

I’d recommend putting newspaper underneath your art!!

  • Use the “sad” paints to paint the bottom half of the paper.

  • Make sure to fill in every white space on the bottom half of the paper.

  • If you use markers, add marker to the page and then go over it with a wet brush or damp paper towel to blend the colors together.

Watch the Second Part of the Story – Jesus is Risen

Discussion

  • How do you think the followers of Jesus felt when they found out Jesus rose from the dead and was alive again? (happy, excited, couldn’t believe it etc.)

  • Look at the paints (or markers or crayons) we have here. Which of these colors do you think could be “happy” (or excited etc.) colors?

  • Help your child pull out the bright happy colors such as red, yellow, orange, bright greens, blues or purples etc.

Painting Part 2:

  • Use the “happy” paints to paint the top half of the paper.

  • Make sure they fill in every white space on the top half of the paper.

Painting Part 4:

  • Once the Easter Art has dried, carefully remove the tape from the paper!

  • Remind children that Christ died so we may have life!  The white of the cross signifies that Jesus’ death and resurrection washed us clean! Happy Easter!!

With Jesus rising to new life on Easter Sunday, his presence, then as now, illuminated the surrounding darkness and reinstated his commitment to be with us as he renewed his invitation to follow him.

Easter invites all of us to believe in the transforming power of love. At a time in our world where fear is a natural response, the Easter season encourages us to look towards love and life.
